Does Terminal Mean Uninsurable? – Life Insurance
October 3rd, 2011 by admin
Those who have a terminal illness usually have a strain on their finances. Doctor visits, treatment plans and medications can take a toll on any budget. Not to mention the gas money that is spent driving back and forth between doctors and home. Although people with terminal illnesses are considered high risk for insurance companies, they are not uninsurable. Almost anyone can purchase insurance, as long as they have the money to cover it. And, in some cases, a high price up front could actually help you out later down the line.
CRITICAL ILLNESS
You can purchase critical illness insurance if you are already terminally ill. Although the policies are limited when compared to what you would normally find, you can still get it. Usually, you will have to go through a specialized insurance company. For this type of insurance, your best bet would be to find an insurance broker who is not tied to a certain company. They do the shopping for you and will find you the best rate. Although it is not as easy as many other plans, this may be a policy that will become very beneficial to you and your family.
DISABILITY
Disability insurance is not out of reach for a person with a terminal illness. Disabilities can happen no matter what your age and health status. Like before, it will be more expensive to purchase. As a high risk already, the rates will only go up when you start shopping for insurance. However, disability insurance will cover some costs associated with missed wages. Many Americans already have this coverage through Social Security so it may not be anything you need to pay more for. Although Social Security is limited in some areas, it has already been paid for depending on how long you have worked and how much you have paid to Social Security taxes.
LIFE
Terminal illness means you definitely need one type of insurance: life insurance. Quotes will be high, but with a term life insurance policy, you still may be able to afford it. If you are already paying a lot for care, you probably will not have the money to pay for a funeral if the need should arise. Life insurance will provide your family with the money they need in order to pay for this service. Although there are many stipulations when people who are terminally buy this insurance, it is still possible.
GET WHAT YOU NEED
Insurance may not be what you need when you have a terminal illness, but for some people it is just what the doctor ordered. It is hard to decide when you are already receiving
long term care. Insurance may just create another expense, but for some people it can help them and their families. To decide if insurance is worth the price, shop for quotes and talk to a financial advisor. Especially with life insurance, you are not covering yourself, you are covering those who are left to pay the bills when you are gone.
